America 250

Tennessee: The Original Frontier

It’s our country’s 250th birthday and we are going to be celebrating all year long!
We plan to expand our Early Landowner project by adding one Patriot landowner each month through the year. Each will have a map of their original property that shows the location on the land on a modern map!
We will definitely be posting more on Facebook, including occasional “On this day in history” posts that will include local events!
We will also be posting transcriptions of our Revolution related documents.

There are many states that have a “Washington County,” and we were second only by a few weeks to Maryland who had the honor of being the first. We were, however, the first area to be named for George Washington, as we were the “Washington District,” before being a county!
We are partnering with other Washington Counties to create a quilt containing a square for our county!

Much more will follow through the year, and we are excited to celebrate this milestone with you!
